About The Position

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking an experienced Auto Technician with strong background in vehicle tracking installations, fleet management hardware, fuel probes, and auto-electrical systems.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience fitting tracking units on light vehicles, commercial trucks, yellow equipment, and specialised fleet assets, with excellent fault-finding skills and a proven track record of high-quality workmanship.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate must meet the following:

Experience & Knowledge

• 5–10 years installation experience in vehicle tracking & fleet management systems (LV, HV, trucks, plant equipment).
• Strong knowledge & fitment experience of:
  • Car alarms, immobilisers, anti-hijack systems
  • Vehicle central locking
  • Circuit identification
  • CANBUS
• Strong auto-electrical experience (wiring, harnessing, relays, fault diagnosis).
• Experience installing dashcams, ADAS systems, live-streaming cameras, and surveillance systems.
• Experience installing fuel probes and fuel monitoring devices.

Qualifications

• Trade test in Automotive Electrical/Electronics preferred.
• Computer literate: Excel, Word, configuration software, diagnostic tools.
• Valid driver’s licence (essential).
• Clear criminal record (will be verified).

Language

• Fluent in Afrikaans and English.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Installation & Technical Work

• Install full range of vehicle tracking units, fleet management systems, fuel probes, and camera systems (ADAS, live streaming, driver behaviour).
• Perform De-installs and Re-installs as required.
• Repair, test and troubleshoot installed equipment.
• Strip and reassemble vehicles safely and professionally.
• Fit and harness tracking units, ensuring clean, secure, tamper-proof installations.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure all installations meet SmartMix, dealer, and manufacturer specifications.
• Conduct pre-fitment and post-fitment checks, complete job cards, and sign-off documentation.
• Ensure health & safety standards are adhered to.
• Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicle in excellent condition.

Targets & Reporting

• Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly installation targets.
• Complete installation documentation and management reports timeously.
• Liaise effectively with clients, schedulers, and internal teams.

Standby & Travel

• Participate in 7-day standby rotation (1–2 times per month).
• Travel and occasional sleep-outs required due to field-based nature of work.
